One Day. I’m Just Not That Into You – 5 Ways To Avoid The 3rd Date

I've got a bit of a light-hearted read for you today. Here's something I worked on for The Huffington Post. Ladies, enjoy... I'm just not that into you... For the fellas those six words are just so easy. They say it how it is and leave broken hearts trailing in their wake, seemingly without a care. For us girls, it’s a little tougher. Unless you’ve got a truly cold-heart, when we want to give someone the flick we have to consider the emotions involved; primarily guilt. We all know that feeling of panic when it’s crunch time; he’s proposed date three but you’re sooooo not keen. How can you bail? What’s the perfect excuse to never [ever] see him again? This conundrum is guaranteed to cross the mind of every 20-something in this modern dating age. You’ve put yourself on the line. You’ve had date one: drinks. It’s full of awkward chit-chat where you essentially interview each other in order to discover who the person sitting opposite you is. By the end of the date you’re not to...

One Day. Living In London: The 18-Month Itch

Image
In many ways, moving to a new country is like dating someone new. First there’s the getting to know them stage; you’re a bit uncertain and insecure as you tentatively seek out information, armed with a generous dose of superficial judgement. Stage two equals the exhilaration phase. You’ve decided you like it so you’re swept up in the moment, thrilled at the prospect of something so new and exciting. You’re blind to faults, you go with the flow… It’s going to take 2 weeks to open a UK bank account? No problem! I don’t mind draining my savings while I wait, it’s obviously a very thorough process… The supermarket is only open for 6 hours on a Sunday? That’s fine – work life balance right? I’ll make sure I’ve got no plans between 12-6pm to grab those groceries… The Piccadilly line has severe delays [again]? That’s ok, I’m fine with a 2-hour commute, think how much of my book I can read… Rose coloured glasses, anyone? But once those come off, around about the year-and-a-half mark, say hello...

One Day. 5 January Pick-Me-Ups

Image
I grew up with the notion that January was one of the greatest months of the year. In Australia it was part of the Christmas holidays, the start of an exciting year ahead, I was often at the beach and temperatures sat around 30 degrees. Bliss. Londoners think January is the most depressing month of the year. Funny that. I mean it’s gotta be the weather – the Poms believe this so much, they even have a day for it. Blue Monday. It falls on the third Monday of the year. Supposedly it’s the day you’re likely to be the most depressed… I have to disagree because despite the zero degree weather, January always has me excited at the prospect of what the new year holds. Blizzard or no blizzard. Empty bank account or not. However, if you are feeling a little down, might I share with you my 5 favourite pick-me-ups. Dog Videos Honestly, I could wile away several hours each evening sifting through all the animal videos in my social feed, particularly those featuring confused and/or adorable pups. I...

One Day. Happy New Year

Image
I’m not sure I’m ready to say goodbye to 2015. As far as years go, it’s been a pretty great one. From living the life in London to visiting 18 incredible cities/towns in 11 different countries, it’s safe to say my wanderlust ratings are off the scale. I’m so grateful for the experiences I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the things I’ve seen. The world is an incredible place and despite the troubles and fear we face at times, we must always remember to live each day with a happy and grateful heart. I hope 2016 holds many wonderful adventures and experiences for you. Just think… A new year. Three hundred and sixty-five beautiful mornings and starlit evenings, Fifty-two promising weeks, and Twelve transformative months full of possibilities. I can't wait to share my Italian Christmas adventures with you. Look out for the first post next week. Much love to you all, make a wish at midnight and dream to achieve it. Happy New Year, 2016 I can’t wait… xx

One Day. Merry Christmas

Image
It’s hard to believe it was a whole year ago that I was tucked away in a Cotswolds cottage enjoying my first European Christmas with family friends by the fire. Where does the time go? This year I find myself nestled in the foot of the Italian Alps in a magical little town called Merano. There’s snow on the mountains and Christmas markets everywhere, and, you can even eat a Christmas meal in a bauble - I mean how festive is that? Even better, Dad’s come to visit so we’re spending it together. I hope you have a magical holiday with those nearest and dearest to you. Much love and have yourself a merry little Christmas xxx Photo by Krissie.

One Day. The Seven Guys You’ll Find on Dating Apps

If you hadn’t already heard, I had some pretty exciting news to share a couple of weeks ago! No I’ve not found my future husband and gotten engaged… nor have I won the lottery… but when you’re a writer this achievement comes pretty close to those milestones!... I got published on The Huffington Post. A humorous little article I wrote about the world of dating in the age of apps is now out there for all to see. I thought I’d post it here as well for your reading pleasure… The Seven Guys You'll Find On Dating Apps As a single woman living in London I have come to discover that navigating the wilderness of online dating is a skilful art that requires an objective eye and plenty of gut instinct. With apps like Tinder, Happn and Inner Circle, the entire dating landscape has been transformed. Where once we used to rely on 'meet-cutes' out in the big wide world, now it's all about a mutual right swipe. It has become obvious to me that certain apps have certain reputations and ...

One Day. Stylist Live London 2015

Image
Every Londoner worth their salt knows that Tuesday is Stylist Magazine day. A little lifestyle, fashion and food freebie handed out for your reading pleasure, designed to make your tube journey go just that little bit quicker. Last week was a big week for Stylist with their “Live” exhibit on from Thursday to Sunday in Angel Islington. After waking to typically cold, grey London skies on Sunday morning it seemed like the perfect opportunity to go check it out. With everything from fashion to beauty to food on show I felt right at home as soon as I arrived. First stop was the gastronomy area [of course!]. From the cheerful fellow with his rare cheeses to the chap who knew all about flavoured gin, everything was on show and ready to taste. I may have ducked past the chocolate stall several times for a nibble of the samples! Totally guilty. Next up, homewares where I absolutely fell in love with the designs from Freya. Pastel hues, cute quotes and cushions designed to brighten your day, wh...

One Day. Hello Autumn + The Must Have Coat

Image
It’s official, autumn has struck. But to be fair summer really only lasted about a week here in the English capital so it’s not like I should be surprised… It’s definitely that time of year where one needs to shift from a summer wardrobe to an autumn one. Already I’ve felt the need to stock up on the essentials like jeans, knitwear and ankle boots. My most coveted new season purchase? This robe coat. Robe Coat  (so popular it seems to be selling out and restocking online each day, try in store if you need) // Cami // Jeans // Shoes It’s everything I’ve been lusting after. If it came in black I’d also buy that one in a second. It’s so cosy with a wrap-style that looks equally stylish when open. The wool-blend is so lush and I can’t get enough of the oatmeal shade. Last weekend when the wind whipped up I took it for a spin around London. I think it fits in perfectly don’t you? Like any day in London, the heavens decided to open at one point but we just worked with the rain and embr...

One Day. Carsten Holler: Decision

Image
Ever since I was a little girl and my mum took me to the Brisbane Science Museum I've had a love of interactive exhibitions. Getting involved in galleries and art is far more interesting to me than just standing back and observing... Hence why I was so excited when I heard Belgian artist Carsten Holler was bringing his biggest ever show to London complete with 6-storey slippery slide. One for those who want to fully immerse themselves, this exhibit is like an action-packed theme park with a side of art. Come prepared in comfy clothes and shoes. Upon entering the first thing you'll find is Decisions Corridors. You open the door and find yourself in a dark metal tunnel that once you've rounded the corner becomes completely pitch black. When you've found your way out you'll emerge into the Flying Mushrooms - it's like something I imagine you'd find in the home of Lewis Carroll; straight out of Alice in Wonderland. In the next room there's the Pill Clock  w...

One Day. How To Move To London

Image
One year ago to the day I stepped on a plane at Brisbane airport, passport in hand and adventure in mind. Life starts now. I remember thinking to myself. How right I was… Ice-skating in London My heart lies in Paris Kew Gardens The view of Barcelona Really, it’s a funny feeling knowing you’re leaving behind everything familiar in search of new adventure. I was moving to a city where a grand total of 5 people knew my name. The feeling of anonymity as one of 8 million was quite an unusual one considering I came from a city with a population of 600,000 that, at times, felt as though there was only one degree of separation. Upon my arrival in London I felt so calm, which is highly unusual for me. With jittery nerves at the best of times and full blown terror at the worst, I’ve never dealt very well with change, yet when I reached London I guess you could say I felt serenely excited. I took it as a sign I was making the right move. Albert Bridge, Chelsea Needless to say, the first few week...

One Day. A Sunday Stroll Through Westbourne Grove

Image
The pretty shopping street of Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill is well known to locals and, even better, slightly removed from the hordes of tourists in the city. I stumbled upon it during my first week in London as I went to a job interview. I didn’t get the job but I did have a great afternoon of shopping! With the likes of The Kooples, MATCHES Fashion, AESOP and Club Monaco lining the streets, it’s an undeniably great shopping spot. The PERFECT daytime dress  (and it's on sale!) / trusty cons / clutch bag / bracelets here and here You might even find some cool vintage cars in the area... Personally, I love to come here on a sunny Sunday afternoon, grab a treat from the Ottolenghi bakery, and, with this safely in hand, set off on a serious window shopping mission. There’s pretty much a 100% guarantee I’ll spot something I love within 10 minutes. Particularly when the store is hot pink… And if the beautiful flower stall is open I’ll always pick up a bunch of blooms, but if I’m ...
